As Apple launched its redesigned Apple TV, many users began wondering what to do with their first-generation models.
Daniel Kurth, designer of the Nixie Concrete Clock, came up with the idea of repurposing the original Apple TV to create the ATV 1 Nixie Clock.
Kurth reused all the structural elements, incorporating a Nixie controller board and tube holders. He replaced the original acrylic top plate with a new CNC-routed plate through which the Z560M Nixie tubes emerge. The heavy-duty fabric cable serves as both the power cord and a string for wall mounting.
As with the Nixie Concrete Clock, the rearranged tubes allow users to enjoy the playful interaction between the six digits.
All the electronic components of this fully functional clock are assembled by hand.
Kurth will provide the CNC files for the tube holders and cover plate free of charge upon request.
